7-Day Itinerary on the Southern Oregon Coast

The Southern Oregon Coast rewards travelers who slow down. Instead of packing everything into a weekend, this seven-day itinerary gives you time to explore the beaches, small towns, trails, and seafood spots around Coos Bay, Charleston, and Bandon without rushing from stop to stop.

A gravel path leading to a lake with a small pier, grassy banks, and clear blue sky on a calm day.

Day 1: Settle Into Coos Bay

Start with a relaxing arrival day. Walk the Coos Bay Boardwalk, stop by the Coos History Museum, and grab dinner on the waterfront before sunset at 7 Devils Waterfront Alehouse.

If you’re staying near Cape Arago Highway, you can ease into the slower pace of the coast without adding more drive time after arrival.

A rocky coastline with crashing waves, a lighthouse on a distant cliff, and pine-covered cliffs along the shore.

Day 2: Shore Acres and Cape Arago

Spend the day exploring the string of parks south of Coos Bay. Shore Acres State Park is known for dramatic wave watching, ocean cliffs, and formal gardens.

From there, continue to Sunset Bay and Cape Arago. The North and South Cove trails offer tide pools, quiet viewpoints, and beach access without long hikes.

End the day in Charleston with fish and chips at Monkey Business Food Express To Go.

Vast coastal dunes with tall grasses, pine trees, and a calm sea on the horizon; a lone white statue or sculpture sits among the sand and shrubs.

Day 3: Oregon Dunes Adventure

Head north toward the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Horsfall Beach is one of the easiest access points for beach walks, sandboarding, and OHV riding.

If you want a slower afternoon, drive through the dunes scenic areas and stop at overlooks along Highway 101 before returning to town.

A serene coastal sunset over a rocky beach with calm waves, warm tones on the horizon, and grassy cliffs framing the shoreline.

Day 4: Bandon Day Trip

Bandon is about 30 minutes south and makes an easy full-day outing. Walk the beach near Face Rock, browse Old Town shops, and stop by the harbor for seafood chowder–there are so many good choices. Perhaps The Wheelhouse & Crowsnets, Bandon Fish Market, or Tony’s Crab Shack.

If the tide is low, spend extra time exploring the sea stacks and shoreline south of town.

A forest stream scene with mossy rocks, fallen tree across a small stream, dense evergreen trees, and gentle water trickling over stones.

Day 5: Hiking and Hidden Beaches

Use this day for a quieter stretch of coast. Bastendorff Beach is a good option for long walks and wide-open views.

For hiking, the South Slough area offers forested trails and estuary views that feel completely different from the oceanfront stops earlier in the week.

A neon sign reads “WELCOME TO THE NORTH BEND” in red/orange lights, mounted on a dark backdrop with trees behind it.

Day 6: Local Food and Coastal Towns

Take a slower day to explore local spots you may have missed. Visit North Bend cafés, seafood markets, breweries, or small galleries around Coos Bay and Charleston.

This is also a good day to revisit a favorite beach at a different tide or sunset hour. Conditions on the Southern Oregon Coast change constantly, which is part of what makes longer stays worthwhile.

People walk along a sandy beach at sunset, grasses in the foreground, calm water, and a long pier or jetty stretching into the horizon.

Day 7: One Last Scenic Drive

Before heading home, make one final drive along Cape Arago Highway. Early mornings are often the quietest time to spot wildlife, watch fishing boats leave the harbor, or catch low fog moving through the bay.

The advantage of a full week on the coast is simple: you don’t have to choose between beaches, trails, small towns, and downtime. You actually have room for all of it.

For travelers looking to stay longer and explore at a slower pace, Bay Point Landing makes a convenient home base with easy access to Charleston, Cape Arago, Shore Acres, and the surrounding coastline.
